Making up for lazy times

I mentioned it before but yesterday there was a ‘Typhoon’ so we pretty much did nothing the whole day. By Wellington standards it barely seemed windy where we live but certainly it was a major storm in some parts and a quite a few people died due to landslides and flooding. For us it just rained allot and seemed a little windy but it was still enough to keep us inside watching TV and DVD’s.

To make up for it though today had to be extra busy. I took photos at each place we went so have a scroll to the bottom of the post for the pictures. Usually is just make an album to post but the mobile version of WordPress doesn’t seem to do that easily

For lunch we went to a very cute little café about 10 minutes away. As you can see in the photos it was a really quirky place with quite a simple but delicious lunch menu. The place was also very dog friendly and included a small dog run down the back. Mostly that means people bring their tiny little handbag dogs and have a coffee while the dog sits in its pram like a furry baby.

I actually watched a woman pull up in a large SUV that seemed several sizes too big for her, get out, get her dogs out, then get the pram out and put her dogs in the pram to walk the 10 feet to the café seat they sat at just beside the car park. Honestly these weren’t dogs any standard I’ve ever heard used. They were the kind of small furry and squeaky toy dog eats. It was hilarious so we had to leave or risk our laughter being exposed. Luckily we’d finished eating by now

After lunch we took Grandma Yui for a walk to a small local coffee rostary to buy some fresh roasted beens. While we waited for our Andes Mountain Special blend to be cooked,  they served us some nice  Indonesian drip filtered coffee which was quite delicious.

Next on the list was a drive to Totsuka and our old University of MeijiGakuin. It was a great  nostalgic moment and we met one of our old professors and had a good chat about his special social anthropology subject. A few photos of the old stomping ground are at the bottom of the email.

It did tale us 30 minutes extra just to get around the station because of an accident they couldn’t cross the tracks.

On the way back I got to drive some wonderfully narrow roads with minimal viability and even less margin for error than usual. We made it back just in time to head out to my favorite Izakaya on the other side of the train station my friend Kay Chan joined us for dinner and we had a great time chatting and eating and catching up with old friends of mine that work at the restaurant (photos attached!) We consumed a ridiculous amount of food and drink  – then we topped it off with dessert and a shot of blue Tarantula Tequila for Kay and I. I’d try to describe the food but I just can’t do it justice so photos will have to do for now.

I’m off to also because tomorrow I’ll be driving us in a shopping mission to a large outlet department store near Mt Fuji so here’s hoping the clouds clear up so we can actually see the legendarily mountain!

Oyasumi!

Now that I’ve talked the photos up here they are to finish off the evenings chapter:
