Shinkansen to Kyoto

Thursday the 6th…

Busy rush to get going this morning but we made it to the train on time. Naoko’s folks dropped us by car to Shin-Yokohama station, which involved me driving us all there quickly via the highway, then her parents were going to take the long way home to avoid the speed and mayhem that I enjoyed so much on the way there.

The train ride was, as always,a great way to see a lot of the country side in one go, very very quickly. Blink and you miss seeing entire towns go by! We covered so much distance that we saw Mt Fuji in the morning sun, then a snow storm somewhere just past Nagoya, then back to sun again by the time we hit Kyoto.

We dropped our bags at the hotel just across from the station and set off to find somewhere for lunch. Naoko had a place in mind but for some reason it was shut. We wandered around a bit but didn’t have much like so stopped and asked a couple of local ladies where they would recommend. It was a good choice, both well fed, two meals for a grand total of $15!

A bit of shopping around and a new pair of shoes later as Naoko had broken the zip on her boots when she took them off at lunch time, and we are now on our way to the old side of town by the temples. Right now we are sitting in a taxi on the bridge over the river, at the edge of the main shopping area, not sure if the shops on the historical side of town will still be open.

In the mean time hope you enjoy the photos of our trip so far today, hopefully I hit another wifi spot and can upload this soon.
