Hey folks,
Well the weather finally came through for us today. A lovely and hot morning meant it was the perfect time to get out on the bay and do some fishing and swimming.
A few laps of the bay on a kayak, trailing a tempting looking spinner off the end of the line, didn’t even result in so much as a nibble! The fish weren’t interested, or the water was just too murky for them to notice.
By lunch time we had circled the bay three or four times, and even gone around to Tapu Bay just around the corner, and still no luck. Twice over the reef was only exciting because the depth of some of the waves made it look like we might get crushed on the rocks in the trough between the waves.
Eventually we gave up and paddled back in to shore for a swim.
Luckily we got back in when we did, because only twenty minutes later the high tide brought in a line of mud and river wash-off back into shore from the middle of the bay.
We swam for as long as we could, while this brown line inched ever closer, then it was very quickly coming right into the shore. It had been just enough time to feel like I’d had a proper swim, and it was just cold enough that I was okay with it being over already!
Going to have to be more careful with the sunblock tomorrow though, I missed a spot right between my eye and my ear just above my cheek. I think that might be a bit tender tomorrow!
Anyway, time to sleep, we got the aluminium dinghy cleaned out, motor stuck on and anchor tied up today, so hopefully the wind dies down and we can get in some early morning fishing tomorrow and bring home some lunch!
Will take photos and let you know how it goes! Or I’ll just tell stories about ‘the big one that got away’!
Night!
