Hello out there in Internet land if anyone is still tuned in to this blog.
My god I am a slack bastard… It’s almost May and this is only my third blog post for the year and it won’t even be all that exciting really as I haven’t actually achieved much yet this year.
The biggest thing so far this year that I have actually done is move out of home, kind of… Yes I know, by the time most of you are (or were) 27, you’ll have been living independently for several years already, but to be honest, I didn’t see any logical reason to do so before now. Even now I have not moved far away, but far enough that my girlfriend and I can enjoy the sense of living in sin freely. Sadly for me, I am now in a house with 3 females, believe me – this does not make for a balanced environment!
What I really miss the most however, is the ability to watch violent TV in peace, and not worry that it is offending someones sensibilities… Or even stay up late watching movies on TV… Sadly our house is just too small for me to invite the guys over for a night of blood, gore, and whiskey. As a counter to that however, I did have the joy of watching several weeks of ‘New Zealands’ Hottest Home Baker.’ and continue to enjoy weekly episodes of ‘Desperate Housewives’ and ‘Brothers & Sisters’ to name some of the things I look forward to most. Luckily for me it is close enough to go back to the parental types place and watch good old violence instead such as ‘The Pacific’ – Like Band of Brothers, only in the hellish jungles of South East Asia… Good times. Thank god ‘Glee’ hasn’t returned to NZ television yet, that might cause me to do something to the TV which I would later regret.
On the plus side, every second day almost, one of the 3 has baked some new delicious treat from which the rest of us can all enjoy getting fat. Sunday’s are the best, there are queues on the oven from lunch time until dinner time almost. This weeks winner in my book were the cheese bread sticks made by my girlfriend. (No, that was not a biased voting system, I ate like a dozen of those delicious morsels.) But I think if and when we move out of this place, everyone is going to need to detox and pay Jenny Craig a visit, or at least the gym once in a while.
Sunday was ANZAC Day, for those of you who are reading this from outside of NZ or Australia, refer to my post from this time last year to understand about ANZAC Day. I made it to the dawn service again, I feel that those who sacrificed for our freedoms, and those who lost there lives without a say in the matter on all sides of war, deserve our respect and to be in our memories, and I can give at the very least, one hour a year to stand with the other people who are also taking the time to remember them. Sadly for their families and people who knew them, 3 more NZ Defense Personal were added to the list of those who will not be returning home before the day was out. The three died in an as yet unexplained Iroquois helicopter crash on route to a planned fly-over of the Wellington ceremony. We will remember them too.
Tonight N (I can’t keep making reference to ‘the girlfriend’ and I can’t remember if I ever mentioned her name before, so I best refer to her as simply N,) and I went to the John Mayer concert at the TSB Arena. I can’t say I would call myself a fan, but his tweets are sometimes interesting, and I like most of the music when I listen to him on the radio, but I have never purchased a single one of his albums. I must say I was pleasantly surprised though, it was not as much of a slow wishy washy concert as I thought it might have been. The guy can sing, and he can play guitar nicely too. Some of his songs are even quite upbeat and rock-like, nice bluesy numbers thrown in there too. Of course there is the overly large amount which are generic pop tunes, but hell, the guy writes them himself and has made a crap load of money doing so. Good on him. Now I have some of the lyrics stuck in my head however, and that is not so fun any more. Despite how amusing I find these lines, “It’s been a long night, in New York City. It’s been a long night, in Baton Rouge. I don’t remember you ever looking any better. But then again I don’t remember you.” and how much I enjoy almost any song that reminds me of NYC, there’s only a limited number of times I want it playing through the sound system in my head.
In other news, I am still unemployed, so if you are a potential employer and have found this writings interesting, please send me a message. If you are a potential employer who did not find these writings amusing, please write to me also, and tell me what you disliked, that way I can remember to exclude those parts next time, and present myself in a more appealing way. Just kidding, I’d probably keep writing the same rubbish anyway. On the plus side, I only write once every few months so you won’t get too irritated reading me right? Please leave comments, and share my ramblings with your friends (my own friends wont read this, so I need to borrow yours to get my analytic’s counter up.)
And as a special bonus, for all you facebook addicts like me out there, this is why you should take care what you post:
