Off to the Rugby

久し振り!

That’s Japanese for “It’s been a long time” which it feels like it has. The post I made a couple of weeks ago about the haiku doesn’t really count as those were just a project for Uni, which by the way is basically over for another year. Almost time to start pretending that the average weather we usually get in Wellington is a real summer!

What better way to do that than to leave town to go and watch the rugby! I know most of you who know me would be surprised that I would make any effort to go and watch a game of rugby, as I will almost always complain when it’s on TV 4 times a week, and virtually never make an effort to go and watch any at the stadium. This game has a unique draw card for me though as it’s being played in Tokyo! What better excuse to jump the pacific and go to Japan for 5 days than one of national pride like cheering on the All Blacks!

Truth be told though, none of my plans centre around the game at all. I haven’t even been making plans about what I want to see and do. All I have been doing is planning the food I am going to eat! I have so far plotted out almost exactly my first 3 days of eating, right down to what dishes I am going to eat at what places to make for maximum eating enjoyment and ability. Not a crumb of eating time shall be wasted! Other than food the only thing which I have put thought in to is which kinds of sake, plum wine, and whisky I might like to drink with which meals!

This trip shall be especially entertaining as I am bringing along my aunt and uncle for their first visit to Japan. When you take someone with an adventurous spirit for knowing about local customs and an appetite for trying something new, it is as close as you can get to trying it again for the first time yourself. The facial expressions can be the most entertaining when it comes to food that has a new taste or texture that us visitors may have never had the chance to try anywhere else.

We are off to a good start though as we made it to Auckland safe and sound. Tomorrow’s 5am wake-up call will be the true test of the rest of the trip. If we can make it through that then not kill each other on the 12 hour plane ride then we should be fine for the rest of the time!

I’ll have Internet access everywhere we stay this time so I’ll try and keep everyone updated nightly if there are still some readers out there!

Bye for now.
